Why take this tour?
Discover the history, craftsmanship and flavours behind Barbados rum on a private experience designed around your interests. Choose any two of the island’s four renowned distilleries: Mount Gay Rum Distillery, Foursquare Rum Distillery, St. Nicholas Abbey or Stade’s West Indies Rum Distillery.
Each location provides a different perspective on Barbados’ rum heritage. Depending on your choices, your experience may include historic plantation grounds, working production facilities, traditional and modern distillation methods, museums, gardens, guided presentations and rum tastings.
Between visits, enjoy a private guided drive through Barbados. Your sightseeing route will be planned around the selected distilleries and may feature coastal scenery, countryside, historic communities and notable island landmarks.
With private transportation, flexible routing and convenient island-wide pick-up and drop-off, this experience combines Barbados rum, history, culture and scenery into one memorable island adventure.
Mount Gay Rum Distillery
Visit Mount Gay’s historic working distillery in St. Lucy and explore the heritage of one of Barbados’ best-known rum producers. Depending on the experience confirmed, guests may tour the distillery grounds, learn about the production and ageing process, see working equipment and enjoy a guided tasting. Mount Gay experiences operate at scheduled times and must be reserved in advance.
Foursquare Rum Distillery
Explore Foursquare Rum Distillery and Heritage Park, located on the grounds of a former sugar plantation in the Barbados countryside. Visitors can discover the property, view elements of the rum-production process and visit the tasting area. Foursquare is known for producing brands such as Doorly’s, Old Brigand, E.S.A. Field and Foursquare Rum. Access is normally available during weekday business hours and may not include a formally guided tour. After exploring the windmill, enjoy a delightful lunch at Mosaic at the Mill. This charming restaurant offers a variety of delicious dishes, blending local flavours with international cuisine. Whether you choose a fresh seafood dish, a hearty salad, or a traditional Bajan meal, you’re sure to find something to satisfy your taste buds. The restaurant’s relaxed atmosphere and scenic views make it the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a meal.
St. Nicholas Abbey
Experience a historic plantation estate featuring a 17th-century Jacobean great house, museum, gardens, sugar-production heritage and an on-site rum distillery. Available experiences may include the Great House, a guided distillery presentation, rum tasting and the Heritage Railway. Railway journeys and premium rum experiences must be selected and reserved separately when required.
Stade's West Indies Rum Distillery
Tour the historic West Indies Rum Distillery, established on Barbados’ west coast in the 19th century. Jamar took us on a tour to the last functioning sugar cane windmill in the Caribbean, and it was amazing. The guide was fantastic and prepared an outstanding meal as well. We also went to Foursquare Distillery, which was equally exceptional.
